Home Educating the next generation’s leaders and pushing the frontiers of the field of computer science through research that has real-world impact. Academics Bachelor's Programs The Computer Science Department admits students to an undergraduate program that you are guaranteed to find rigorous and dedicated to the real-world training and practical problem solving that has been the hallmark of computer science education at CMU since its inception. See the Programs Admissions Info Master's Programs We offer three distinct master’s options for students who have completed (or will complete) a bachelor’s degree and want to extend their training in computer science. Our largest program is the M.S. in Computer Science, which allows students to work with their academic advisor to create their own course of study. See the Programs Admissions Info Doctoral Programs Carnegie Mellon's Ph.D. in Computer Science is, above all, a research degree. We certify that our students have a broad foundation and awareness of core concepts in computer science, have advanced the field by performing significant original research and have reported that work in a scholarly fashion. See the Programs Admissions Info CSD Research Areas Research in the Computer Science Department is sustained by the strong foundations of our history. Building on that groundwork we are fearless in pushing the frontiers of our field and acting quickly to pursue new directions.Faculty and Undergraduate ResearchCSD PhD Blog Artificial Intelligence Graphics Programming Languages Security Systems Theory Upcoming CSD Events More CSD Events Jun 2 10AM - 11:30am Doctoral Thesis Proposal - Margarida Ferreira MARGARIDA FERREIRA Synthesis of Stateful Programs from Execution Traces In Person and Virtual - ET Traffic21 Classroom, Gates Hillman 6501 and Zoom Add event to Google Add event to iCal Jun 5 11AM - 12PM Doctoral Speaking Skills Talk - Jeff Xu JEFF XU Smooth Tradoff for Tensor PCA in Polynomial Time In Person Gates Hillman 7101 Add event to Google Add event to iCal Jun 17 4:30pm - 6:30pm 2025 Juneteenth Keynote Lecture Dr. CLARENCE LANG Echoes of Freedom & Jubilation In Person Rangos Ballroom 1/2, Cohon University Center Add event to Google Add event to iCal More CSD NewsLatest News May 29, 2025 Human-AI Collaboration Can Unlock New Frontiers in Creativity May 21, 2025 Carnegie Mellon, Mid-Atlantic Hub Host First NSF I-Corps Cohort for AI, Robotics May 16, 2025 CSD Ph.D. Student Named DOE Computational Science Fellow
