CyLab Relaunch: A New University-Wide Security and Privacy Institute

— 3:30pm

Location:
ASA Conference Room 6115 - Gates & Hillman Centers

Provost Farham Jahanian, together with the deans and leadership of the Software Engineering Institute, invites our community to a celebration of a new chapter for CyLab, which is being elevated to a university-wide institute. CMU is a world leader in cybersecurity and privacy, with a distinctive bodyof work that spans all seven colleges and SEI, while engaging with a variety of external partners. By transcending organizational boundaries, CyLab acts as the hub for Carnegie Mellon’s research into computer security and privacy. CyLab offers a platform for collaboration among existing efforts across the university, while catalyzing new interdisciplinary work and providing institutional support and resources for students and faculty. Please join us for the relaunch event, where the Provost and Deans will announce over $9M in funding to support CyLab. The funding comes in the form of a Bosch Endowed chair and six CyLab Presidential Fellowships, which will be used to promote inter-disciplinary work. Following the announcement will be a panel discussion with key faculty. They will explain department activities and roles, and offer faculty a chance to ask questions about security and privacy at CMU, and CyLab's new role.
